If you’re new to pets, don't start with something that will stress your life. To be honest, cats and small dogs are probably the easiest for beginners. Cats, especially those ones are very independent. They can ignore you for hours and still love you later.
What pet did you start with?

I don’t have pets but I think betta fish, hamsters, cats, and small gentle dogs are beginner friendly. They require low to moderate maintenance, adapt to limited space, and offer companionship. These options help first-time owners learn responsibility without overwhelming time, effort, or budget commitments.
Cats are a good first pet because they will let you know when they are not happy. LOL. My first pet was a Great Dane, we bred them. But I've had dogs, cats, turtles, birds and fish.

I feel it should be dogs because bringing a dog into your life is one of the most joyful and fulfilling experiences you can have. From wagging tails that greet you at the door to those comforting eyes that seem to understand your every emotion, dogs have a magical way of being friendly
